Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Group Age/Class Size?

We currently have 6 children ages five to six and are looking to fill a class size up to 12 of the same aged students. As the collective grows so will our classes and ability to include different ages.

What is the HLC schedule?

Children will gather Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Will our children spend all their time on-site at the Heartsong Center?

We are cultivating relationships with other kindred groups and members of the larger Whatcom County community. Our community connections and access to our high-capacity passenger vans, aka "The ADVENTURE Van," provide ample opportunities for enriching field trips and expansive experiences throughout the week.

What is the cost to attend HLC?

There is a $720 contribution per month to attend the Heartsong Learning Co-op. for the 2022-2023 school year.  Part time students pay $55 per day. Annual supply fee of $400 per student. There may also be additional costs associated with special field trips.

What is your cooperative model?

Everything we do as a "school," we do as a community. Our cooperative model provides transparency in all school-related logistics and decision making. In the Heartsong Learning Co-op, everyone has the opportunity to have their voice heard and to contribute to shaping "school" policies and curriculum. In this community-based model, we all help to run the program by sharing the learning environment-related tasks and responsibilities.

How many volunteer hours will be required of parents each month?

Regular responsibilities include having one parent supporting the Lead Learning Mentor "in the classroom" for a full day on a rotating basis.  We estimate volunteer hours beyond that will be about 4 hours per family each month.

Do you have scholarships?

At this time we do not offer scholarships; however, we are researching our options for community donations to assist HLC families.

How much time will my child spend outside?

We are a mostly outdoor learning program. The Heartsong Transformational Arts Center indoor spaces are available for activities as needed. It's important for the kids to be prepared for all types of weather.

What accreditation will my child get from Heartsong?

You will enroll your own child as a homeschool student. You will receive all the information you need to submit to show your child's progress and academic curriculum.

Is HLC a school?

The Heartsong Learning Cooperative is not a school but rather a homeschooling enrichment learning cooperative.

What’s the future of the program?

We are excited to see this collective grow along with our children. Get in touch with us to learn more about our vision and opportunities.
